Fresh apple slices are a great snack option, but when you're craving something a little different, why not use those apple slices to make Crispy Apple Fries? Oven-baked and covered in a light, cinnamon-sugar crispy-coating, these apple fries are a real game-changer.
What You'll Need
- 1/4 cup quick-cooking oatmeal
- 2 tablespoons walnuts
- 3 tablespoons light brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons whole wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup light margarine, melted
- 3 apples, peeled, cored, and cut into 1/2-inch wedges
What to Do
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Place a wire rack on a baking sheet.
- In a food processor or blender, combine oatmeal and walnuts; process until consistency is like flour.
- Place oatmeal mixture in a shallow dish, add brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt; mix well. Place margarine in another shallow dish.
- Dip apple slices in margarine, then in oatmeal mixture, coating completely. Place on wire rack.
- Bake 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden brown.
Notes
For a great apple dunking dip, in a small bowl, mix 1/4 cup fat-free cream cheese, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1 cup sugar-free whipped topping.
