Creamed Onions & Peas

We've taken the classic peas and onion dish and kicked it up a notch with the addition of sweet bell peppers. Give our Creamed Onions & Peas a try, and you'll be transported back to Grandma's kitchen!
What You'll Need
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoon butter
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup fat-free milk
- 1 pound (16 ounces) frozen peas and onions, thawed
- 1 red bell pepper, seeded and diced
What to Do

In a medium saucepan, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add flour, butter, onion powder, salt, and pepper; whisk until smooth.
- Slowly add milk, whisking until smooth and thickened. Stir in peas, onions and diced red pepper and cook 3 to 4 minutes, or until heated through. Serve immediately.

My mother use to make cream peas a lot. I never knew how she did them--now with this recipe I can do them. I think the peas with onions would be great. I shall try this recipe real soon. Can you use can peas and onions?
