Creamed Onions & Peas

We've taken the classic peas and onion dish and kicked it up a notch with the addition of sweet bell peppers. Give our Creamed Onions & Peas a try, and you'll be transported back to Grandma's kitchen!

What You'll Need

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup fat-free milk
  • 1 pound (16 ounces) frozen peas and onions, thawed
  • 1 red bell pepper, seeded and diced

What to Do

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add flour, butter, onion powder, salt, and pepper; whisk until smooth.
     
  2. Slowly add milk, whisking until smooth and thickened. Stir in peas, onions and diced red pepper and cook 3 to 4 minutes, or until heated through. Serve immediately.
