What You'll Need

  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 4 pound lean beef short ribs
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 3 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 (8-ounce) can no-salt-added tomato sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

What to Do

  1. In a large skillet over high heat, heat oil; add ribs and brown on both sides. Place ribs in a 4-quart or larger slow cooker.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine remaining ingredients; mix well. Pour sauce over ribs.
  3. Cover and cook on HIGH 5-1/2 to 6 hours or on LOW 8 to 9 hours, or until fork-tender. Skim off any excess fat before serving.
